CHENGDU LION MIXED FLOWER TEA

Brand: Chengdu Lion Pavilion

Type: Mixed Floral

Ingredients: Rose, lily, honeysuckle, colorized crysanthemum, chamomile, hawthorne, rock sugar

Aroma: Pretty strong, very sweet and almost reminiscent of berries. The aroma becomes more grassy and rounded when brewed, and the dominant note is the chrysanthemum.

Steeping Time and Temp: 3 minutes (+, it doesn’t really matter), boiling

Flavor: This is really different than what I was expecting. Most floral teas, especially ones that mainly feature rose, can have a tendency to get really cloying and heavy - but this one is sharp, light, and refreshing. It would be really, really awesome iced. The aftertaste is a little grassier than I would like, but I love love love the biting, almost acidic high note supplied by the lily and mums. The rose rounds it out and keeps it from being flat or boring. I can’t really pick out the other flavors - the rest of the ingredients are more for aroma and appearance than anything else. Also, I was kind of side-eyeing how much rock salt they include in each packet, but it’s in no way overwhelming. It’s a nice complement to the taste, and even if you don’t normally take your tea with sugar, I wouldn’t bother picking the sugar out of the packet. It’s nice.
As you pour more cups, the tea becomes sweeter and more rounded (because the different types of flowers take different times to infuse) so it’s almost as if the blend itself evolves. It’s like having a different floral tea in each cup!

Final notes: I brewed this tea in a glass pot, and it is BEAUTIFUL. I’d also say that if you can find one with a very small spout like mine, that would be best, because it naturally filters out the larger flower parts. This tea is beautifully packaged and looks very impressive, and would be great for entertaining!
I’m actually going to give this tea a 10 out of 10. It’s beautiful and it tastes wonderful - I’m really, really impressed! To be fair, it was a little expensive - $1.59 for four packets - but each packet can brew a small teapot and can be reused, and I also think it’s totally worth it.
